My Journey

I founded British Borders back in 2012 when the Arma community was in need of a new, forward looking community with the ambition and determination to deliver a serious roleplay server members could really enjoy and call home.

A friend of mine first introduced me to Arma 2 back in late 2012. Having played DayZ only a few times, I soon became bored and began to realise this was not the game for me. I set out searching to see what other servers and game types were available.

It didn’t take long where I then found a new server called Takistan Life – immediately I became hooked and began to enjoy my time, spending countless days with random people, playing this life variant of Arma 2. Later that year sweeping changes took place and many members departed from the community, including myself, but that left me thinking. It was this moment that British Borders was born.

Since then I have never looked back, we have a superb team here at British Borders and a great member base. Unlike many communities which disappear after a year or even a few months, my main ambition is to make British Borders stick around and continue to be one of the most successful, reliable & enjoyable Arma 3 community.

My Role at British Borders

Since setting up the community, my role at British Borders consists of running the day to day operations of the community and servers. As part of my role i, along with the other board members, work on future plans and strategies to continue to make British Borders a global gaming community.

I also work closely with the website staff in managing and developing all aspects of the British Borders website.

Future Hopes for British Borders

British Borders has a bright future with many new plans and ideas, not to mention our Arma 3 Tanoa life server soon to be released. We are not going anywhere soon so i would invite you to join us today and make British Borders your home.

My Journey

I joined British Borders at around June in 2013 when it was a relatively small but stable and expanding rapidly community. It was at that time the UN was practically non-existing and the staff team was about 5 man strong in total and all worked out fine.

I enlisted as the UN General and a support member (that was still allowed at that time). For a good month, the UN flourished (some may disagree) and grew well in size and roleplaying capabilities whilst I was a support member and was in charge of being the first line of support for any players on Teamspeak and the server.

After that period, I got promoted into the Moderation team and together we were a very supportive cohesive team that was in charge of tackling misbehavior on the server and dealing with the associated issues that came with them. After a month, I was elected as the Head Moderator by the team and was put in charge of coordinating and supporting them.

Another 4 months have passed and I was promoted into the Administration team where I was put in charge of creating roleplaying scenario’s, catching hackers by checking irregularities in the system and being a solid line of support for the Moderation team.

Whilst in the administrator position the leadership of British Borders setup a HR role, which was in charge of overall staff management and at the same time being their moral support under lead of a director. Me and Grizzly were put in that role after 4 months of being an administrator and for a good 3 months we’ve taken charge into the handling and supporting of any staff member.

After the director in charge of HR left, Grizzly was put into that position and for a good year I was a staff leader under his firm but fair leadership. After Grizzly had to step down due to personal problems I took over in his role as Director of HR and lead the staff team for a solid year.

That year passed and I transitioned my responsibilities towards the development side of the server and have been in charge of that ever since and will continue to do so for many years to come.

My Role at British Borders

My current official role is Directing and managing the development of the server and its associated services whilst also being Maverick’s direct advisory organ and assisting Adam in his management of the staff team.

I also still help in the organization of all the different things that make up the community as a whole.

Future Hopes for British Borders

I hope for British Borders to come out of this transition period from Arma 2 to Arma 3 with the same quality and level of roleplay as it had in Arma 2. I personally believe we can achieve such a thing, but ultimately it will be a collaborative effort and the staff team needs to be a strong and cohesive team that knows it can count on any of its colleges.

That was sure the case in the early days of British Borders and with a unique opportunity we’re in now we can achieve such a thing. I plan to be a moral support in such a team and hope it will work out.

My Journey

I joined British Borders back in 2014 after watching some youtube videos looking into Arma 2 servers in general from DayZ, I also saw a lot of different roleplay servers and decided to take a look. British Borders was the obvious choice for me since 99% of the servers were either in USA, Australia, Germany or Russia which for someone like me from the UK a UK server made sense. After joining I just stuck around as a normal player trying to learn everything without dedicating all my time to one particular faction from starting in the Police force to changing to PMC Serco back to the police force which I stayed until I decided I was comfortable with my knowledge and wanted to reach SCO19. Upon reaching SCO19 after 1 year in the police force assisting with the management of it I stayed in SCO19 until my staff responsibilities took proiority and decided to leave until the server ended.

My Role at British Borders

Assistant Director - As a member of The Board my responsibility is to assist other members of The Board and give my input in the direction of the development of the community.

Staff Manager - I adopt this responsibility with the Assistant Director role as a manager to run the community staff team to ensure British Borders delivers the support it requires to function.

Future Hopes for British Borders

My future hopes is to stay within the staff team and even progress to Director one day helping the community run to its maximum potential and help steer the development to become the best role play server around.

My Journey

Hello, I'm Cado but my actual name is Callan or Cal. I joined British Borders in March 2016 where I found myself playing on the server almost daily and I got attached to the community instantly. I began by designing graphics for the website where I then accepted the role as Graphic Designer. I was heavily involved with the development of the website because of this and because of my previous experience of coding and programming, this led me to the next step of joining the Web Team. Soon after I also applied to be a member of support which was successful and has since progressed to a Moderator where I still am today. My latest progression was being promoted to Website and Systems Manager, as manager, I aim to bring new and exciting features to our Website and Teamspeak. Although a manager is a high-up position with important roles, I still very much aim to be the best I can be in the community and work on progressing through the staff ranks.

If you ever need to contact me feel free to message me on the website, contact me on Teamspeak or email me at cado@britishborders.co.uk

My Role at British Borders

So as I said I currently have four roles in the community and I am dedicated to them all. I am currently:

  • Website & Systems Manager
  • Moderator
  • Graphic Designer
  • As Website & Systems Manager my role is to maintain and improve our community website and TeamSpeak, introducing new and exciting features, whilst conducting scheduled updates and fixing any bugs. By researching new plugins and methods, I will implement changes which enhance our member's experience and encourage greater user interaction on our Website and the TeamSpeak server.

Being a Moderator i spend a large amount of time on our servers in order to make sure that everybody abides by our rules and community policies, both in-game and on Teamspeak. I am also able to check ban appeals and make decisions on appeals against bans of up to seven days.

My Graphic Designs are seen throughout the whole community. Whether on our website, Teamspeak and even in-game. I update them regulary to keep the community fresh and up-to-date.

    Future Hopes for British Borders

With BB I wish to continue and progress through the ranks of the staff team and improve the community where I possibly can.

    My Journey

Hello. My name is Chaz. I joined British Borders in March 2016, Being my first time on a Roleplay server I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I instantly grew to enjoy what British Borders had to offer as a community. From there on I became more involved within the community and accepted the opportunity to lead the PMC faction. In addition to this, I applied to join the staff team in June 2016 in which i was successful and now currently hold the position of Moderator.

    My Role at British Borders

I currently hold the position of Moderator which is primarily and in game based role which entails the Moderation of any servers associated to British Borders and slight forum moderation from time to time, I sometimes undertake small roles to help benefit the community where I can, anywhere from faction development to other small jobs that need doing.

    Future Hopes for British Borders

I hope to see British Borders continue to thrive as an Arma 3 community and continue to build a strong community of players with the outcome of creating the best roleplay.

My own hopes for my place in this community are to continue positively contributing where I can to help forge this community into the best it can be.

    My Journey

I came here through recruitment on the Arma 3 Coding Wiki. At that point i wasn't that much of a coder I came here mostly to help and to learn and expand my coding abilities. I've completely achieved this goal by finishing a nice clean version of the property system that I coded independently with a lot of testing tweaking asking for advice but achieved this goal. Since then I've been able to code anything that was requested from me while learning new things, new techniques and new ways. At this point in British Borders I take responsibility in providing direction in the course of development. I manage some coding services we use. I'll mostly be sitting in my coding room where i'm in comfort. I try not to get myself mixed up in dramas. Anyway I hope you enjoy our mission!

    My Role at British Borders

My current main role on British Borders is Developing the mission with some extra responsibilities attached to this. Since becoming Senior Developer I'm managing some of the software being used in our coding environment and providing direction in the course of development.

    Future Hopes for British Borders

My future hopes on British Borders are to be appreciated by spending a lot of my free time to develop for BB and hopefully ever become Development Manager. Anyway I found this community and never need another one! Sign up today.

    My Journey

I joined British Borders in 2014 because I needed to take my mind off some things. I remember it like it was yesterday, I was playing as a police officer arresting criminals and issuing tickets! Funny enough I was kicked for not being on teamspeak, so I decided to connect and see what all the fuss is about.I was hooked and fell in love with the game. Within a week I applied for membership and was on my way to become an official Police Cadet! Couple months later I was promoted to Police Inspector. Around the same time I was invited by the SCO19 Leader to join their faction.

After 6-8 months of being in SCO19 I managed to reach the rank of Squad Leader and Sniper Instructor. The days when being called a sniper was an elite title. Used to train for hours on long distance sniping as well as designing sheets for CQC (Close quarters combat).

I applied for the staff team and started out as a trainee support. Within 9-10 months I managed to work my way up to the rank of Staff Leader. Couple months after that I was given the award for Long Service (Be in the staff team for over a year).

    My Role at British Borders

As a Developer I am assigned with the responsibility of improving the visual aspects of our Tanoa Life server, creating new vehicle and clothing textures and map environments to enhance your role play experience.

In addition to this I am part of the web team and quite often can be found surfing the website and developing new features for you to enjoy.

If you have any new suggestions, I would love to hear them.

    Future Hopes for British Borders

I wish the best for British Borders and I hope to see it grow in size and success.

    My Journey

I started my journey as a British Borders Recruit in August 2013 by this time the server was nearly peaking on mid-day to a full server and from the first time I joined I loved it, Everything from the roleplay to all the brand new features that British Borders had incorporated into their server. A month later I joined the community officially on September 7th 2013 and I loved playing as a Civillian for the first three months of being within the community.

After those months had passed I finally decided to make an Application for the Police Force and I got accepted and was made a Police Recruit and I loved role playing as a cop and it made me pass my intrests into being a police officer as I was growing up. A month later I was promoted in the Police Force as a Police Sergeant and an opening came up to be a Police Instructor and I accepted straight away my job at this point was training all the new applicants of the police force and I did that for the next 6 months on and off I then got promoted to Police Inspector which at the time was a big deal and I was only 15 years old and was so hyped to get it.

Then I decided to join the Staff team and I got accepted into the Staff team as a Trainee Support carrying out duties by helping out problematic cases on the server because someone or a group had not roleplayed a situation correctly, A month later I got my Support Tag and was hyped but then two weeks later GCSE's kicked in and I couldn't do much work from then on the BB server so I decided to leave and said my goodbyes to the server and the community at that point but I knew that wasn't going to be the end of me and I knew the server would do well because of the great community and the great people that helped build it to the community it is to this day.

I joined back into BB on December 2016 for a on and off occasion but I then got to know people better and a lot had changed within the time I had left. But then I seen Aron on when I was online and I was like "Jesus he's still here after all this time!", so I talked to Aron and instantly all the memories from the past experience with the BB server flooded back in and I just couldn't wait to help out in any way possible. I finished College with a Diploma in Computing and now I'm going to University this year to study Software Engineering. I'm currently going to be working towards my goals of getting a Master's Degree in Software Engineering and pursuing my dream Career as a Commercial Airline Pilot.

    My Role at British Borders

My role is to develop and maintain the features for the British Borders Mission file on the server and also listening to Aron as he's baby sitting me (For now!).

    Future Hopes for British Borders

My future hopes is to get this community back to the way it was and had started like where you could barely get onto the server half of the time because it was full and people would fight for slots (Literally), This is the way I see the future hopes for British Borders because we are dedicated to doing so.

    My Journey

I started with British Borders from around December last year were Maverick and the other members of the Staff Team had a grand vision to make a new all-inclusive multiplayer role-playing mission for Arma 3 based on newly release Tanoa map. For the next 3 months I focused on the base development for the core features of the mission framework which helped steer the team into what it has become today. I am extremely proud of the work that has been completed throughout my absence and I am looking forward to once again putting my skills to use and providing an excellent platform on which players can have a tremendous amount of fun!

    My Role at British Borders

I will be taking on a development role, which means I will be bringing life into the communities ideas 'developing' them into game-play systems that players can use and have fun with. I will be using my skills to provide technical guidance to other developers, ensuring good knowledge transfer and good development habits.

    Future Hopes for British Borders

I hope to stay with British Borders and continue to support the development of the role-playing framework that we have started to develop.

    My Journey

I joined British Borders in late 2012, playing as a guest for a few months and eventually applying to join as a member. British Borders intrigued me and I decided to apply for staff, I worked my way up through the positions and eventually became Director of Human Resources. I was in this position for around a year before exiting the staff team. During my time here at British Borders, I’ve dealt with hundreds of issues, spoken with thousands of players and managed many different staff members.

    My Role at British Borders

My position consists of advising the community staff team on numerous things ranging from updates, meetings and crucial decisions that need to be made. I provide an impartial and knowledgeable view that comes from many years of experience here at British Borders.

    Future Hopes for British Borders

I would like to see the community thrive and maintain its current state, fulfilling the needs of ArmA 3 players and enabling them to play on a serious roleplay server.

    My Journey

If you've been around the community for more than a few days, you've most likely spoken to me by now. I'm Eagle Eye, the only current administrator of the British Borders community.

I joined the community in September 2015. It didn't take long for me to realize that I wanted to contribute to this community by becoming a member of our staff team. Working my way up through several ranks, I started out thinking that I wanted to become a moderator, which seemed particularly challenging at a time when we had a large staff team of around 40, considering the competition and demands of the job.

Sooner than expected, I found myself in the position of moderator. Not too long after that, I also became a membership coordinator, adding to my normal responsibilities as a moderator. In that small membership team, I reviewed countless applications and interviewed a large number of new members - a demanding, but rewarding task.

    My Role at British Borders

In early 2016 I reached the rank of administrator. Starting out as a support staff member, this was something that seemed almost impossible because most staff members were either removed or left before achieving this rank. I can now say that I thoroughly enjoy being an administrator. I enjoy leading people, and this position has enabled me to do so in a great community.

    Future Hopes for British Borders

Continuing this journey, I am looking forward to assisting the community going forward even more and building a great place for enthusiastic ArmA III role-players, possibly even continuing my work in a new position should the opportunity arise.
